Landmark Show @ Fabric8

Excitin’ isn’t it?
It’s kinda my first official art show!
Sure back in the day we’d have a couple shows a year at Belcher Street Studios, which always included SF Open Studios.
And I had several open houses @ Natoma Street back in the late 90’s (which really turned into drinking parties… nuthin’ wrong with that either!)
And I’ve had about a thousand cafe showings over the last decade.
And I’ve had some pieces up on Olivia’s walls now and then over the last couple years.
…but this…! This feels different! This feels “official!”

It’s a first for me it’s a first for Fabric8 and I’m excited!!

I never realized how many collectors pay attention to the artist’s resume, needing that validation that the piece that they’re buying will only go up in value. I gotta admit I was pretty naive in the past… I really thought all that matter was whether or not the piece of art spoke to you. Like it? Buy it, right?

Art as investment was new to me. I remember just a few years back when I came across an article in Details magazine about three art collectors and how their “obsession” began. One of them was a honcho over at Apple. I blogged about how he should buy some of my art. He must have been googling himself everyday as the very next day he emailed me, told me he liked my art and wanted to know where I have shown. Innocently enough I emailed him every little cafe show and every open house I ever had. Man I remember being SO excited about his email! I was positive it was going to be the beginning of something huge! I’d be able to quit my job and concentrate on painting full time! He was going to connect me with other collectors and galleries and… well… umm… I never heard from him again. I tried really hard not to be bitter… I’m sure I bashed him a couple weeks later in my blog (probably not a good move either right?!)

Anyhow, being a self-taught painter, I don’t even have any sort of schooling to throw on a resume. I’m just the little train that could… little by little, huffin’ and puffin’. I want nothing more than to draw and paint every day and be able to make a living that way!!

And I’m gonna get there…
